Comedian Kapil Sharma hosted a grand wedding reception in Amritsar on December 14 after tying the knot with Ginni Chatrath. The two got married in a Hindu ceremony followed by an Anand Karaj Ceremony in Jalandhar. The two then reached Kapil’s home town of Amritsar for the wedding reception at the Radisson Blue hotel.
While the groom donned a purple sherwani embellished with gold sequins, the bride chose a pink and a mint green anarkali.
The theme of the night was black and gold and elaborate arrangements were made for the guests. The newlyweds also cut a big cake on the occasion. Singer Daler Mehndi sang a medley of his Punjabi songs at the event and raised the spirits of the guests with his performance. Comedians Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Bharti Singh, singer Babbu Maan and many other Punjabi celebrities attended the party. While the men were dressed in black, Bharti chose a sequinned gold gown for the party.
Kapil had earlier shared two pictures from the twin wedding ceremonies. He had donned a green sherwani along with a golden turban with three kalgis for the wedding which had the bride in a red lehenga. Ginni wore a pink lehenga and Kapil wore a white sherwani with a pink turban for the Anand Karaj ceremony.
The pre-wedding celebrations began at Kapil’s house with a jagran while an Akhand Patth was organised by Ginni’s family at her place.
The Kapil Sharma Love Story –
In an interview with the Bombay Times, Kapil and Ginni had revealed their love story. They first met in college and Ginni woould bring food for him everyday out of respect. Kapil also shared how he once directly asked her if she likes him and she denied it. He recalled, “My friend told me that Ginni likes me, but I rubbished him. One day, I directly asked Ginni, ‘Tu mujhe like toh nahi karti?’ and she denied. Later, at a youth festival, I introduced her to my mother as one of my students.”
He further stated, “Then I came to Mumbai for the ‘Laughter Challenge’ audition and by then, I had also appeared on a Punjabi TV channel. Ginni was impressed with me because I was studying and working at such a young age. When I got rejected for ‘Laughter Challenge’, I called her and said, ‘Please don’t call me’. I felt that our friendship has no future, as her financial condition was better and we belonged to different castes. So, we took a break. When I got selected for Laughter Challenge after auditioning again, she called to congratulate me.”
For the uninitiated, Ginni’s father had once rejected Kapil’s marriage proposal. Revealing about the incident, he shared, “When I started earning well, my mother took my marriage proposal to her family, which got rejected. Inke papaji ne bade pyaar se bola, ‘Shut up’ (laughs!). Thereafter, I got busy with work, while she pursued MBA in finance. I guess, she kept studying to avoid marriage proposals.
At that time, I was settled in Mumbai, and so much was happening in my life. I then realised ki itna kuchh hua hai, but isne kabhi mujhe disturb nahi kiya. Itna patience kisi mein nahi dekha maine. Jab ye sab gadbad chal rahi thi, that’s when I decided that it was the right time to marry. It was my decision, because ye toh padhai kare hi jaa rahi thi (laughs!). So, on December 24, 2016, I called and told Ginni that I wanted to marry her. My mother has always been fond of her.”
Looks like the year 2018 will end on a super happy note for the celebrity comedian! With his lady-luck by his side and his comeback in television, we hope that Kapil reaches great heights.
